Hands-On Learning at Boaz: Weeke Primary School’s Memorable Farm Visit

Children from Weeke Primary School had an unforgettable morning at Boaz, where they discovered firsthand the work we do providing opportunities for adults with learning disabilities. The day began with the children helping to feed the donkeys and sheep, followed by a hands-on experience collecting fresh eggs from the chickens. They also explored our polytunnel and discussed the sustainable farming practices we use, including the crops grown in raised beds.

The Eco team then moved to our craft room, where each child spent time sanding down a Boaz heart to take home as a souvenir of their visit. Throughout the morning, the children engaged in a variety of activities, each designed to promote teamwork, learning, and an understanding of sustainability—values at the heart of what we do at Boaz.

Mark McGettigan, Outdoor Learning Leader at Weeke, shared, “We’ve been inspired by Boaz’s approach to self-sufficiency and learning together. It’s shown us what we can achieve at our own school.

The children left with new experiences and memories, with one student even saying it was “the best day ever.” We are grateful for the opportunity to connect with the local community and share the important work we do here at Boaz.
