Cooking
Delicious hot lunches (or summer salads) are dished up daily. Every morning our members take it in turns to cook nutritious meals with fresh ingredients they helped to grow from seed in our kitchen garden. Everyone is invited to sit down together to enjoy the tasty food and a chat. Meals are totally free for members while staff and volunteers make a small donation.
Our super-clean kitchen has been awarded a five-star rating for hygiene by Winchester City Council, beating many local restaurants. In addition to learning to cook simple and tasty recipes from scratch, we try to build healthy eating routines. Deputy manager Jennifer is head of cooking.
Our cookery sessions teach safe and hygienic ways of cooking and increase confidence to try new or unfamiliar ingredients. We offer a fun learning experience and celebrate feast days by making pancakes, Easter biscuits, Christmas cakes and more.
Summer is a busy time for harvesting all the fresh fruits and vegetables. We extend the shelf life of our produce with jam and chutney making. The jams, jellies and chutneys we make are sold on-site along with any spare fruit and veg. Any profit made from the sale of produce is ploughed back into the project.
