We’re excited to share the completion of a beautiful new sensory room at Boaz—generously designed and built in partnership with the team at Cardo.

It all began when Daniel Usher-Barrass, Cardo’s Social Value Manager, came across Boaz and reached out to ask how they could support our work. After chatting with Stuart, our project manager, the idea for a calming sensory space took shape—somewhere members could take a breather during the day, or staff and volunteers could gather for training.

Over the next few months, a dedicated 10-person team from Cardo—including a carpenter, electrician, and plasterer—transformed an old boot room into a peaceful, versatile space. They clocked up 104 hours of labour, donating all materials and time completely free of charge.

Designed in collaboration with our team and members, the finished room is light, quiet and flexible, with soft white walls and adjustable LED lighting to support a range of sensory needs. Members even got hands-on, helping lay the new floor and adding a sense of ownership to the space.

Daniel described the experience as one of the most rewarding projects the Cardo team has taken on:

“It wasn’t just another job—it was something with a lasting impact.”

From all of us at Boaz, thank you to everyone at Cardo. You understood what we were aiming for and brought it to life with care, generosity, and great attention to detail. The result is a space that’s already making a big difference.
